How to setup wireless internet

Ok cables connect check router switched on check laptop switched on check.
No connection !!! why ? so you do it all again and same problem , ok lets phone our internet supplier .
Internet supplier asks you standard set of question , your on the phone maybe 20 minutes to 1 hr still nothing. (most broadband internet companies charge hefty rates on phone lines !! beware!!)
So still no progress , the visit to the loo is going to have to be accompanied with the same news paper you have read three times already.
